Data presented in this report have been submitted to the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) American Joint Replacement Registry (AJRR) by sites through December 2021 to include procedures from 2012 to 2020. As of December 2021, there were 1,152 institutions that had submitted procedure cases to be analyzed in this report.

This year represents the third year of reporting device-specific cumulative percent revision estimates utilizing maximized outcome capture from Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) Medicare claims data. This is the second year presenting inclusive tables examining cumulative, all-cause revision at target timepoints with further stratification of devices based on fixation and bearing descriptions. The AJRR reports on a construct basis and thus does not have insight on component-specific failure. In addition, this report explores the state of the data for basic demographic and outcomes data by reported cases of previous COVID-19 diagnosis. Methodology for analyses detailed reflect a consensus-driven methodology determined by multiple stakeholders.
